Hawaii Family Photoshoot
A Family Photoshoot With Video on Oahu
Oahu Family Photographer
I recently had a session in Hawaii that felt really special.

A homeschooling mom brought her two kids to a quiet beach for a family photoshoot with video on Oahu, which is full of incredible beaches for families! It was supposed to be a sunset shoot, but the sky had other plans. No golden light, just clouds and wind.
And honestly? It made the session even better.
The waves were strong and the wind had a mind of its own. Kids skateboarding barefoot along the shoreline, hair flying, totally in their element… they laughed and played, and I just followed along.
There weren’t any stiff poses. Their connection came through in every little interaction.

Mom, Ashley, jumped in too. She cuddled up with them, laughed right along, and just enjoyed being with her kids. The warmth between them was so natural and clear. When she saw her gallery she said:
“I love the pictures so much!! But that video!!! Ugh that made me cry. Thank you for capturing that. It’s everything. 😭❤️”
That video turned out to be her favorite part of the session. She told me it made her cry in the best way, and that she’d cherish it forever. I love to make my clients cry! LOL!
Adding a video to your family photoshoot brings everything to life. It captures not just what your family looks like right now, but how this season of life feels.
Beach Days That Feel Like Home
We started up on the rocky ledge above the tidepools. It was quiet and open, a good spot to sit, talk, and ease into the session.
Letting Life Lead the Way
They hopped on their skateboards and cruised around the open road by the beach. Nothing posed—just movement, laughter, and doing what came naturally.
Tidepool Swimming and Slowing Down
They climbed down into the water, (and even swam fully clothed!) just enjoying being together. No rush, no plans. Just time to play and soak it all in.
Even with no bright sunset, this session was full of meaning. The wind, the waves, and the energy of that day added texture to the photos and gave the video even more depth.
We let go of the original plan and just leaned into what was actually happening. That gave us something precious and real!
Amazing family photos don’t have to be about getting dressed up or going somewhere fancy. They don’t have to happen in a picture-perfect location. In fact, the most beautiful images often come from doing something that feels true to you.
Gorgeous family photos are about you. Your connection. Your rhythm. Your way of being together.
This is what I love about documenting families in a way that reflects who they truly are. A family photoshoot with video gives space for movement, personality, and connection to shine.
If you’re curious what a session like this could look like for your own family, reach out. I’d love to help you create something you’ll want to hold onto for a long time.
