From the Mountaintop to Home
Every family’s journey into parenthood is unique, and for the Schmidts, it has been a story of love, resilience, and faith. From their breathtaking mountaintop maternity session to this peaceful morning at home, I’ve had the honor of documenting their most meaningful milestones.
Now, with the arrival of their daughter, Grace Haven, their story continues in the most beautiful way.
A Cozy, Love-Filled Nursery
For Grace’s newborn session, we chose the comfort of home. There’s something special about capturing these early days in the very space where so many firsts will happen—first naps in her crib, first late-night feedings, first quiet moments as a family of three.
Walking into their home, the warmth and love that surrounded Grace was obvious. Her nursery was a perfect reflection of that—a soft, peaceful space filled with thoughtful details. A delicate mobile swayed above her crib, meaningful pieces were placed with care, and everywhere you looked, there were reminders of the joy her parents felt as they waited for her arrival. And now she’s here!
The Sweetest Little Moments
There’s something about a newborn session that slows time. I think it’s just being able to stop and savor the moments, realizing that this is an opportunity to sear it into your memory through the moment, and through the photos. This one was no different! As I photographed Brian holding Grace close, I could see Jordan watching them with this love that you only know for the first time when become a parent! And Brian’s look of pride – honestly such a picture of all the emotions that run so deep from now and forever. The quiet stillness of their home wrapping around them, punctuated with a hungry protest from Grace every now and then, reminded me why I love what I do.
Grace curled perfectly into her mama’s arms. Her tiny feet fit (for now!) in Brian’s hands. The peaceful rest as she drifted off to sleep. And don’t forget the crazy baby REM sleep eyes and giant yawns that could swallow the room! LOL! These are the moments that will never be this small again. And yet, through these images, they’ll be able to hold onto them forever.
A Name Full of Meaning
Of course, Grace’s name carries more than just beauty—it holds deep significance.
Her parents chose “Grace” to honor the unwavering faith that carried them through the heartbreaking loss of their first baby. And “Haven” symbolizes the safe, loving refuge they’ve built together as a family.
Knowing this, every image from their session felt even more powerful. This wasn’t just about capturing a newborn; it was about telling a story of love, hope, and the journey that brought them here.
A Beautiful Continuation
Looking back at their maternity session—where they stood high above the world, dreaming about their baby—this in-home session felt like the perfect continuation. Then, they embraced the vastness of possibility, consumed by the awe of God’s beautiful creation. Now, they embrace the beautiful reality of parenthood, consumed by the treasure of God’s tiniest little person.
Grace, you are so loved. And I have no doubt that your story will continue to be just as special as its beginning.
