A Journey to Grace
There are some stories that unfold so beautifully, it’s a privilege to capture them. This mountaintop maternity session with the Schmidt family was one of those moments—filled with love, anticipation, and the kind of faith that leaves you feeling inspired long after the last photo is taken. Their story of loss, and the joy of their rainbow baby is one of hope and pressing on through the journey.
I met up with the Schmidts and hiked a short and easy hike to a New Hampshire mountaintop during their ‘baby moon’, during the unfolding of fall foliage no less! This place that holds a special significance for them. Not only was it the perfect spot to take in the breathtaking scenery, but it also symbolized their journey. Brian proposed to her on a mountaintop, and now, as they prepare for their first baby, they chose to mark this milestone in the same way. For them, climbing to the top of a mountain has always been about facing challenges head-on with faith, and they wanted to capture this spirit in their maternity photos.
What a way to break the news!
Their story began with a little surprise that came just days before a big race. She was training for her second marathon when she found out she was pregnant. The decision to pull out of the race made some of her friends and family curious. Little did they know, she had an even bigger announcement up her sleeve! But the best surprise was yet to come.
“We decided to share the news with most of our loved ones at our housewarming party,” she shared. “We placed an ultrasound picture on the door of what would become the nursery and labeled it ‘Future nursery for baby Schmidt due Jan 2025!’ Seeing everyone’s reactions as they realized what was happening was priceless.”
This mountaintop maternity session captured their story beautifully, blending their joy, wonder, and gratitude in each photo.

Savoring each moment for the treasure it is
For the Schmidts, this pregnancy has been a time of reflection and celebration. While there have been a few surprises—like the ease of the pregnancy and the challenges of finding a comfortable sleeping position—she’s embraced every part of it. And she’s especially grateful for all those little perks: “One of my favorite parts has been all the additional foot rubs and back massages from my husband! Feeling our baby girl tumble inside me has been incredible and leaves me in awe of God’s creation of life.”
They’ve chosen a name that holds deep meaning: Grace [to be revealed at baby’s birth!] “Grace because God’s grace has been a constant theme in our lives this past year, especially after the early loss of our first baby. And [to be revealed at baby’s birth!]”
This mountaintop maternity session was a chance for them to pause and soak in these precious moments together, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the love they have for each other.
