Wide awake Newborn Photoshoot
This little guy was SO awake! Thankfully, keeping him swaddled kept him super happy until he got tired and was finally ready to sleep. It was fun to get shots with his open eyes, and absolutely fascinating how he tracked and watched me as I moved. Not supposed to do that when you’re so little! Amazing little man is ahead of the curve! But I have to say, he has me looking forward to the next wide awake newborn photoshoot very much!
The best time to do a newborn photoshoot is typically around 5 or 6 days old, or 11-13 days (avoiding the 7-10 day growth spurt and the expected arrival of baby acne around 2 weeks old). This is usually the case because they are sleepy, don’t mind being posed, and just all ’round stars! I promise you, these little growth spurts are like clockwork, and it’s usually easy to tell when your baby is experiencing one. They are a little crankier than usual, they eat more than they typically have so far (hello, cluster feeding!) and their sleep patterns are off. Just when you thought you’d figured it out it all changes! But it really helps to know and be mentally prepared for the changes, knowing they are all normal. More than that, they are expected and healthy!
What about when your baby is older? A wide awake newborn photoshoot is always lovely!
Well, as you can see in this little man’s wide awake newborn photoshoot, when they are not sleepy, you get some gorgeous, open-eyed images! Sweet facial expressions, and a peek at personality that begins to show. I am patient and have a few tricks up my sleeve. We will absolutely get some sleepy baby images! It’s not a problem to take time, let baby lead, and enjoy the process.
It is important to note, however, that as we get closer to the one-month mark, baby is less curled up. It’s more difficult to get the newborn “posed” shots as the baby gets older. Every baby is different, but most of they time they are more willing to be swaddled, comfy and cute than they are to be curled up on a beautiful backdrop.
Regardless of the baby’s age, we can capture stunning photos tailored to their developmental stage, documenting the daily-changing details. Feel free to reach out for a session for your little one. It’s never too late!
